Happy September! Make sure to check out our calendar of events below, and stop into the library for a copy so you don't miss out on any activities. There's lots to look forward to this month, such as browsing our selection at the Fall Book Sale, enjoying a family movie night under the stars, and celebrating creativity for Dot Day!

Can you figure out where it went this week?
Celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month with us! Our library card is exploring Maroa this September - and we want to see how well you know our community! Each week, we'll post a mystery photo featuring a Maroa Public Library card somewhere around town.
HOW TO PLAY:
Look for the weekly Library Card on the Loose! photo on the Maroa Public Library Facebook page.
Figure out where the library card is visiting.
Come to the library before the weekly deadline and submit your answer.
Show your Maroa Public Library card - or sign up for one!
Correct answers will be entered into that week's prize drawing.
Check out a library item during your visit and receive one bonus entry per week.
Don't give away the answer on Facebook!
Keep your guess a secret and bring it to the library.

September of Library Card Sign-Up Month - the perfect time to get one!
Eligible residents can sign up for a library card when they visit. Please bring the identification and proof of residency required for registration.
PRIZES
One winner will be randomly selected from the correct entries each week.
Winners will be announced when the following week's mystery location is posted.
No purchase is necessary. One scavenger hunt entry per person per week, plus one bonus entry a week for checking out a library item. Participants must meet Maroa Public Library District eligibility requirements to receive a library card. Library employees and their immediate households may participate for fun but are not eligible for prizes.

U of I Ext: Meal Planning Made Easy
September 1st at 5:30 pm
U of I Extension will be teaching how to start a meal plan, and how that saves time, money, reduces decision fatigue, and supports nutrition needs.

Afterschool Hangout
Thursdays at 4 pm
1st Thursday ARTS & CRAFTS
We will be using buttons to add colorful hair to a picture, and then we will be decorating a tote to take home!
2nd Thursday STEM ACTIVITY
We will be doing an experiment to see who can get the most things out of a "trash drain". This will focus on building tools to get things out of hard to reach places. Challenging and team building!
3rd Thursday GAME DAY
Come join us for fun challenges and team building! Bring your balancing skills!
4th Thursday MAKE-A-SNACK DAY
Join us as U of I extension comes to the library and will start a series called "Fun in the Kitchen". The first class focusing on Kitchen and Food Safety.

Discussing "I Am Malala" By: Malala Yousafzai
When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize.
